A cyber virgin no more...

Wednesday, July 06, 2005

Whoa! This is a historic moment for me -- my first ever blog entry. My first time on that brave new frontier of public discourse that has received so much attention (fearful, if you ask me) from the old, traditional media, of which I am a part. My first time as a real live blogger.
It feels so....so....so.... so like any other piece of writing. Alas, isn't the first time always a bit of a letdown? After all the hype and anticipation, how could it not be?
Actually, this is merely a test at the request of my smart publishing colleagues who built the marleyandme.com website, and actually know what they are doing, to make sure I'm competent enough to post a blog entry that won't become lost somewhere between here and Uranus. Don't count on it. If you're reading this, I guess I did OK.
The HarperCollins cyber-gurus have set this up for me, and I look forward to dropping in regularly to share my ramblings and thoughts and observations. I'll try not to get too self-indulgent or too self-promotional. Which reminds me, did I mention I have a book coming out in the fall? It's called "Marley & Me: Life and love with the world's worst dog" and I'll be using this space to detail the countdown to the publication date of October 25, 2005. Believe me, no tiny moment will be too inconsequential for me to recount. After all, isn't that what blogs are for?
At any rate, I hope you check back from time to time to see what I am up to and how the launch of the book is coming along. There may even be photos! In the meantime, I invite you to poke around MarleyandMe.com and let me know what you think. Human contact is a wonderful thing; please don't leave me hanging out here alone. Drop me an email at john.grogan@marleyandme.com. If I like what you have to say -- or even if I don't -- I may just publish it here. Unless, of course, you are shy about those things, in which case I always honor confidences.
Until next time, cheers.... John Grogan

Thank you for this book! I have spent the last three days in Minnesota visiting for a family funeral and this book got me through the trip. I turned the last few pages in tears while I waited for my plane to take off back to LA. Poor guy sitting next to me probably had no idea what the heck was going on. Thank you again!

Just wanted to drop a comment.
About to embark on reading your blog (I'm sure it'll take me a while to catch up on 3 years, but I'm interested).

I finished our book, "Marley and Me" a few weeks ago and I LOVED it. One of the best (if not the best) books that I've ever read. I was touched by it. It reminded me of my dog that I grew up with and reminded me to spend as much time and attention on my dog I have now. As soon as I finished (I struggled to put it down- I read it within days, often not sleeping 'til midnight or early morning) I went down and outside to give my dog a BIG hug.

Thank you so much for writing this book! It was so beautiful. My friends can testify to how much I was absorbed by it! I was reading it out in public with them because I just couldn't stop and I was bawling my eyes out- almost at the end- because I knew what would probably happen. I've never been so involved in a book, ever. Words can't describe how much I loved it. So, once again, thank you!
