Hi everyone. Admittedly, I've been a little quiet lately. I didn't realize how quiet until Donna on the message boards asked where the heck I've been. What can I say? It's summer and I always answer summer's call by slowing down a little, finding excuses to celebrate the good weather, dig in the dirt, spend more time with my kids, and time out on the water pursuing one of my favorite pasttimes -- sailing.

I've also been writing each morning, and sometimes in the afternoons, too, which always feels good and always takes priority over blogging or emails.

Soon the family and I pack up the minivan and head to northern Michigan for a week on Lake Huron with good friends. The Great Lakes are among my favorite places on earth. Going there is always like a balm. Calming and rejuvenating. Or maybe that's just the Coronas talking.

Hope you all are having a great summer. Thanks for all the posts on the message boards. I enjoy them all!

I'll be back in touch after the trip. Onward!

John

Hi John,

I just finished reading about Marley in your book, and I wish he'd lived forever so you could keep telling stories about him. I haven't enjoyed a book that much since... well, maybe not ever.

Since beginning your book, we have come to the conclusion that our dog (a big mutt of unknown ancestry) could also be classified as mentally unstable. In fact, my husband is right now thumping Chevy's (named after his truck) big chest and sighing, "Ah, my mentally unstable animal." Yes, he's well-loved despite his imperfections (or as you say, perhaps we love him because of his imperfections). He certainly brings a lot of laughs.

Thank you for telling the story of your dog. I hope there's a sequel about Gracie one day.

Hi John... we all thank you for bringing magical happiness to so many... and for your Benji reference in the book. Even Benji, who is asleep at my feet as I type this, thanks you. Tell me, how much did your book change during the editorial process? I have a new book, my first at Random House Harmony, The Naked Horse, and the editorial process has been... "interesting." Any insight would be appreciated.

Great job on the story, "Marley & Me!" Go easy on the Coronas when traveling on the road. We like you to stick around for some more great stories. Enjoy the summer.

Hello John!
My boyfriend, Eric and I both have two 5 yr. old sister dogs. Their mother(Claire) belongs to a friend of ours, she is lab and irish wolfhound; Eric and I happened to be visiting one night when the neighbors golden retreiver(Buddy) paid Claire a visit. Well the obvious played on from that night, Claire's tummy began to swell in pregnancy. Eric and I would visit frequently, debating on getting one of the pups with she delivered. And wouldn't you know it; we just so happened to be there the night Claire gave birth to 8 beautiful pupppies! As the 8 weeks passed, Eric and I argued over which pup we would get; and after much debate, we left with each of our 2 favorite pups in hand. Kaylee is red like her daddy and Bear(named after Eric's fav. NFL team) is white like her mommy. However, both girls are tower tall and have wiry hair like the wolfhound.
We "SO" have built our life around our two girls; just like you, we will be leaving soon for our much needed 2 week vacation to OBX,NC with our girls! To wrap this up; I want to thank you and your entire family for sharing your happiest/furious/mournful moments with us. And not that I like the end for "Handsome Marley," but I look forward to reading "Gracie & Me"!!!
Thanks Again,
Kimberley,Eric,Kaylee & Bear

Oi John!

Obrigado!
